Intro: Em

Em
the room was unbearably hot.
                                   Am
flowering plant that hung from the radiator pipe.
G
it was dripping sweat from its rapidly fading petals.
Em
and to the humming world in which I was living,
                              Am
a crescendoing stepping sound came in.

heard you stepping over three weeks' worth of newspapers
      D
piled up outside the door.

G Cmaj7
I hear you knocking.
G Cmaj7
come in.
G Cmaj7
turn on the radio.
G Cmaj7
turn up the volume.

Em
you sat down in the same place where you used to sit.
                            Am
it brought back a memory or two.
                                             G
I may not know much any more, but I remember you.
Em
you were quiet for a while, and that was nice.
then you came along with your questions,
       Am
always questions.
                                  D
I don't have any answers to those particular questions.

G Cmaj7
I hear you talking.
G Cmaj7
shut up!
G Cmaj7
turn on the radio.
G Cmaj7
turn up the volume.

...then jam on the verse chords for a while. If you want to finish like John does in ZOOP, play Em Am G and then mess with some double stops on the high strings, kinda like this:

E[8--7--6---8--7-6-7--6--5-3---
B[8--7--6---8--7-6-7--6--5-3---

and all the other strings open.

End on G, either way.
