This is an old revision of the document!

When playing D for extended periods, he'll often hammer on to a Dsus4 (xx0233) at the end of a measure. I haven't tabbed out where this happens specifically, just listen to the song and do it where it sounds good. It also sounds to me like he sometimes plays G (320033) and sometimes G6 (320030), but I've just written them all as G. Lyrics courtesy of nall's site with one correction (“purpling” instead of “purple-ink”).

Intro: D

brought in the old furnishings from mussel shoals. up here they burn a lot of brown coal.

      G D

and the cars all run on diesel fuel. the wind comes in from hills to the east, blowing thirty miles an hour at least.

      G D

and the clear blue horizon is smooth and cool.

      Asus4

and the house is like a relic of days gone by.

       G

and it's kinda hard to take, but i try.

         D G

i've got a deep need to communicate. D G i want so badly to set things straight. D G but i can't seem to concentrate D Asus4 deep in the heart of the quaker state.

G (walk down to G/F# and G/E) D

i had the bed sent in from the west coast. watched the moving men carry in the old ghosts.

      G D

and the purpling sky swelled up like a pregnant woman. saw the lights go up in town. on the back porch it began to cool down.

     G D

but in here, in here, in here it was hotter than an oven. Asus4 and the way my blood began to froth and foam, G made it feel just like home.

         D G

i've got a deep need to communicate. D G i want so badly to set things straight. D G but i something tells me it's way too late D Asus4 deep in the heart of the quaker state.
